About the Collective

We are after/time collective––a multi-use arts space and gallery in Portland, Oregon. Our relationship with the arts community is guided by principles of reciprocity and problem-solving to overcome common obstacles working artists encounter. As working artists ourselves, we recognize that the contemporary is no longer present to itself, and artists must navigate within this disrupted time-complex. Based on this recognition, we understand that access is fundamental for ideation and creation within this new context. Our objective is to provide a source for local artists to nourish their practice alongside a dedicated group of volunteers. Present membership includes Todd Molinari (he/they), Francis Dot (they/he), Kelly Marshall (she/her), Wade Schuster (he/him), and Shannon Edwards (she/her). An open call for new members will be made in the summer of 2021.

An integral part of our mission is hosting local, regional, national, and international artists in our centrally-located space through month-long artist incubators. Once the incubator session is finished, artists exhibit a body of work with help from our in-house curators and preparators. Members of the collective will additionally assist with professional documentation, press releases,  promotion, and media opportunities. The symbiotic relationship between the collective and exhibiting artists allows equal time for art-making and community-making. As volunteers, our collective has created this sustainable framework to ensure robust and intentional programming. We thank The Hallie Ford Family Foundation for awarding our collective with a Capital Improvement Grant that enables us to continue serving our community.
